Easy-to-install Photodon monitor hoods create a shaded environment around your screen, reducing glare from overhead and side lighting. They also add a measure of side-view privacy, making them an excellent accessory for testing facilities, banks, finance offices, government agencies, and medical environments. In addition to that, they can also reduce eye strain.
Each hood is built from a high-density fiberboard with a tough, embossed outer covering and a durable, nonreflective -neutral- gray woven interior.
An elastic cord secures the hood to the monitor, allowing for quick installation and removal. Rigid plastic strips along the front edges add reinforcement, protection, and a clean, finished look. These hoods are designed for indoor use only.
Photodon monitor hoods are handcrafted in our Northern Michigan facility. Every hood ships with all the components needed for a simple, hassle-free setup, including bumper buttons for positioning, foam strips for cushioning and light blocking, and detailed installation instructions.
Hoods ship flat and are ready to unfold and mount. For full setup guidance, see the installation video on the adjacent tab.
Notes:
- Monitor hoods do not block light from behind the viewer or eliminate reflections in rooms with excessive ambient lighting.
- If your monitor has heat exhaust-vents along the top edge, the hood may block airflow unless it is lifted slightly.
| Monitor Hood Pros - The benefits of a monitor hood versus an anti-glare screen protector | ||
|---|---|---|
| Regarding Image Clarity | Monitor hoods cut down glare without compromising image clarity. | High anti-glare screen protectors can cause pixelating and decreased image clarity. |
| Regarding Color Calibration | Monitor hoods allow for accurate color calibration. | Some anti-glare protectors can cause decreased image quality and may inhibit proper color calibration. |
| Regarding Privacy | Monitor hoods provide an ideal amount of privacy for computers adjacent to each other. | Our standard anti-glare protectors do not provide privacy. However we do have privacy filters that do help with privacy issues. |
| Eye Fatigue & Glare Reduction In Ambient Light | A monitor hood aids eye fatigue and glare reduction by eliminating ambient light from overhead and side light sources. | Anti-glare screen protectors allow for glare reduction and relief from eye fatigue, but do not reduce ambient light from hitting the screen. |
| Monitor Hood Cons - When a screen protector makes better sense than a monitor hood | ||
| Size | Hoods are limited in size to monitors and TVs up to 48 inches for office hoods, and up to 96 inches for indoor-outdoor hoods. | Anti-glare screen protectors are available for all screens up to 100" diameter. |
| Protection | A monitor hood does not shield a screen's surface, therefore cannot prevent scratches or smudges. | Screen protectors shield screens from scratches, smudges and other wear and tear. |
Hood Options
Dual Monitor Hood:An adjustable angled office monitor hood specifically designed for a 2-monitor application when the tops of the monitors are at the same height. There is no middle component to obstruct monitor viewing and can accommodate monitors placed in line (180 degrees or at angles up to 135 degrees).
Calibration Door:
The calibration door option is for customers who need to calibrate their monitors for color. The calibration process ensures the color seen on the screen is the same as it will be when printed.
Curved Monitor Hood:
Standard curved monitor hoods are cut to fit curved monitors. The most common monitors have a radius of 1800R. If your monitor is different, enter your information on the custom monitor hood page to get the proper curvature.
