Finding your Device

What if I'm unable to find my device on the website?

We can create a custom screen protector for you since Photodon specializes in custom solutions. We provide a step-by-step guide and videos to help ensure you get the fit you need. Simply go to our custom cut page and provide the following items:

  • Width and height of the area to be covered
  • Corner radius
  • Camera or button cut out info
  • A drawing if there are features to cut around
  • Make and model of your device

If you don't know the make and model of your device, that's okay, providing that helps us to quality control your order the best we can. We do NOT recommend using the manufacturers' dimensions as typically they include bezels or other things that would make your screen protector the incorrect size if cut to those.

Should you have any issues we are here to help. Contact us at 847-377-1185 or [email protected].

How do I order a custom protector?

Ordering a custom protector is simple. You will need to measure the width and height of your device, indicate corner type, and note any features such as cameras or buttons to cut around. We have step-by-step measuring guides on the custom product page.

Choosing a Material Type

Which type of screen protector should I get?

All Photodon screen protectors will protect your screen from scratches, normal wear, and harsh cleaning chemicals. We provide a wide range of screen protector types as everyone’s needs can be different. Below is some additional information on the differences. Our material lineup includes clear, anti-glare, and privacy protectors. You can compare the types by looking at our Screen Protector Comparison Sheet.

Basic Protection
If you are looking for basic protection from normal wear and tear our MXO-clear protectors and MXT-anti-glare protectors are highly effective at protecting your screen and are our least expensive options. They are high-quality materials and have been in our material line up for many years.

Impact Protection
These screen protectors are ideal for devices that are at high risk of impact and scratches, such as those used out in the field or in mechanical shops. They have a shock absorbing layer that adds more protection than a standard screen protector. Choose between the clear option (HSC) for high optical clarity or the anti-glare option (HSG) with a high matte finish.

Extreme Scratch Protection
If scratch resistance is of utmost importance, we recommend our 9HO clear screen protector. It is known for its extreme abrasion resistance and has high optical clarity. It is popular for digital artists who prefer a slippery surface for their drawing devices and other settings where screens are at high risk of scratching.

Eye Protection
Since we spend so much time in front of our devices, it's important to protect our eyes from the harmful blue light they emit. We offer a low matte anti-glare protector just for that, AGB. It has been known to help with headaches, eyestrain, and even sleep.

Anti-Reflective Protection
If you're looking for excellent image quality, our ARC may be the protector for you. It reduces the amount of light reflected from the screen; however, it is a clear screen protector and not anti-glare, meaning no matte finish or glare reduction. Recommended for color critical work and use on monitors. Not recommended with stylus use or on mobile devices such as tablets and phones. May cause a rainbow affect when viewed through polarized lenses.

Privacy Protection
Our privacy filters limit screen viewing from the side. These are best where data on your screen needs to stay private. Information on the screen is visible to any person sitting directly in front of the screen. Side viewing is reduced at 30 degrees and is nearly black at 45 degrees. These are popular in the medical and financial industries and governmental facilities. These are also recommended the traveling professional where screens can be seen by the public such as airplanes, airports, coffee shops etc.

We have three options. The main difference between them is the adhesive used to apply them to your screen, and the number of sides that it protects from visual hackers.

  • Two-way privacy with fully backed adhesion (P2S). These provide privacy from left and right. The adhesion is similar to standard screen protectors. They can be removed easily but should not be reapplied as it will not make for a nice professional look. If you want to remove and re-apply the filter, we recommend our P2L material (see description below).
  • Two-way privacy with adhesive strip adhesion (P2L). These provide privacy from the left and right of the screen. These adhere with multiple double sided adhesive strips. These can be installed and removed multiple times.
  • Four-way privacy with fully backed adhesive (P4S). These provide privacy from the left and right, and top and bottom. They are fully backed with adhesive, so they are not good for installing and removing more than once. These are great for kiosks, large hotel lobbies, or anywhere someone may be above or below you and can see your screen.
What are the differences between Photodon's clear screen protectors?

Clear protectors are great for color critical work as anti-glare coatings can slightly decrease the crispness of your screen viewing. They all offer protection from everyday wear and harsh cleaning chemicals.

  • MXO is our basic clear material. It offers protection from everyday use and cleaning chemicals. It is our most cost-efficient material.
  • HSC has a shock absorbing layer, providing great protection from impact. It is best suited for industrial settings where other objects may be used on the touch screen, such as tools or other sharp objects.
  • 9HO offers extreme abrasion resistance. Recommended for environments where the screen is at higher risk of being scratched or damaged. Digital artists like the feel of this film and feel confident in drawing knowing their screen is safe from scratches.
  • ARC is an anti-reflective material that offers excellent image quality. It is recommended for color critical work done on monitors, navigation screens, and gaming devices. This type can get confused with our anti-glare protectors; however, it does not have a matte finish like anti-glare. If viewed through polarized lenses, a rainbow effect may appear on the screen.

If you are unsure of what material will best suit your needs, we strongly suggest purchasing a clear sample pack so that you can try before you buy.

What are the differences between Photodon’s anti-glare screen protectors?

Anti-glare protectors help with reducing glare on your screen, creating a nice matte finish. This is ideal for devices used in bright light or sunny situations. They also reduce fingerprint noticeability which is great for our many touch screen devices. They all offer protection from everyday wear and harsh cleaning chemicals.

  • AGB-20% anti-glare, light matte finish with blue light cutting properties-helps reduce eye strain.
  • MXH-25% anti-glare, light matte finish, popular for digital artists and in-dash protection.
  • MXT-50% anti-glare, medium matte finish, popular with digital artists as it provides a paper-like feel.
  • HSG-85% anti-glare, high matte finish with a shock absorbing layer.

If you are unsure of what material will best suit your needs, we strongly suggest purchasing an anti-glare sample pack so that you can try before you buy.

Which screen protector is best for devices where there is a gap between the image and the protector?

We recommend a clear screen protector in situations where the protector will not be in direct contact with the image, such as glass-covered artwork. Our anti-glare material is not ideal as it will blur the image.

What if my material type is not listed on a device?

If your material type is not one of the options on a given item, it means it is not suitable for the device. Should you decide that you would like to try a material that is not listed as an option, please contact the customer service department and we'll help you get what you need.

What if I am unsure which material type will best suit my needs?

We suggest that you get a sample pack. This is a great way to test drive our screen protectors before purchasing a full-sized screen protector. We offer complimentary standard shipping for sample packs that ship within the USA. Purchased sample packs include a $5.00 coupon to use toward your next purchase. Check out our sample packs here.

Which material type is the best for drawing tablets?

We have several material types that perform very well on drawing tablets. If you prefer a paper-like feel when using your stylus, our 25% anti-glare MXH and 50% anti-glare MXT are great options. If you are looking for a smoother glide, consider either our clear MXO or 9HO screen protectors. Check out our video page to hear reviews directly from other artists.

Understandably, it may be difficult to determine your preferred material type without trying them first. There are also several factors to consider, including your writing style, the type of nib you use, and whether you do color-critical work or not. Getting samples can help make your decision, which you can do on our samples page.

What is the best material type for color critical work?

For color critical work we recommend MXO, HSC, ARC, MXH, 9HO. Most anti-glare protectors are NOT recommended for color critical applications. Note: ARC is not a good option for drawing tablets or anywhere a pen or other drawing device is used for the touch function.

Uses

Can I use the screen protector with a curved screen?

Yes, our protectors work well on inward curved screens. They do not work well on convex (outward curved) devices such as older monitors.

How do your screen protectors work with touchscreens?

Our screen protectors work on 99% of touchscreens. If you have an ELO or a device with Infrared, Intelli Touch or Surface Acoustic Wave technology, touch function may not work. We recommend getting samples to test them out on your specific device before purchasing the full-sized protector.

Do laser pointers work with your screen protectors?

It depends on the distance you are from the device you will be using the laser on, your lighting situation, and the screen protector material type.

From longer distances, laser pointers do not work reliably with our screen protectors. We recommend that you purchase a screen protector sample pack to test laser pointers with your specific device and situation.

Installing & Removing Screen Protectors

How do I install my screen protector?
  • It's best to install your protector at temperatures between 65-86° F (18-30° C.).
  • Before installing the protector, confirm the size of the screen protector is the proper size for your device. If not, contact us.
  • Read all instructions before attempting to install the screen protector.
  • TAKE YOUR TIME, a rushed installation can lead to poor results.
  • Work in a clean, dust-free environment and do not wear linty clothing. The adhesive side of the protector attracts dust and lint, making it very important to clean thoroughly.
  • Wipe down the front and back of the protector.
  • Align the screen protector to ensure a precise fit. Use the included installation stickers to help keep it in place as you apply it. To see how it's done, check out our step-by-step videos.
  • Slowly peel back the back liner a few inches exposing the adhesive, allowing it to touch the screen.
  • Limit the exposure time of the tacky side of screen protector to avoid dust attraction.
  • Don't worry too much about bubbles as you apply it as they can be worked out later. The most important aspect of installation is to make sure that the screen protector is aligned properly.
  • Once the installation is complete, push out any air bubbles to the nearest edge with the squeegee.
  • Seal the edges.
  • Be sure to remove the top liner of the screen protector as a final step to the installation.
  • Photodon offers installation services should you want our professionals do the installation for you.
Can a wet install method be used with your screen protector products?

Customers have applied our screen protectors using a wet install method with a solution to dampen the surface and protector in order to decrease the likelihood of dust particles and bubbles between the protector and screen during installation. We do not recommend this method on devices with frames, such as monitors, as the moisture can interfere or damage the electronics. Only use the wet install method on a flat or glass surface.

How do I remove a screen protector?

Our screen protectors have a silicone adhesive, are easily removable, and leave no residue.

  • Gently slip your fingernail or a razor blade edge under a corner and slowly pull up the screen protector.
How often should the screen protector be replaced?

Photodon sources only the highest quality materials. The frequency in which a screen protector should be replaced depends entirely on how a device is used. With normal wear, typically our protectors last for a few years. For heavy usage, especially in industrial type settings, they may last less than that.

How do I remove bubbles after installation?
  • Push bubbles to the nearest edge with the enclosed squeegee, your fingers, or a credit card, be careful to not use anything sharp to push the bubbles out.
  • Sometimes small air bubbles are not able to be pushed out, often these dissipate in a few days.
  • An air bubble with a dot in the center is typically dust or lint between the screen and the protector. These will not push out and need special attention. See the next FAQ; How do I remove dust or other debris from under the applied screen protector?
How do I remove dust or other debris from under the applied screen protector?

Bubbles with a spot in the center are caused by dust, lint, or other debris particles.

  • If your screen protector still has a top liner, use a fine tipped marker to identify the location(s) of the debris. Once you lift the screen protector, it is often hard to spot the issue area.
  • Make sure your area remains clean so as not to introduce more debris.
  • Carefully pull back the screen protector from the nearest corner just up to the area that needs work.
  • Use the enclosed installation stickers or tape (loosely fitted around your fingers) to gently dab affected area(s). The debris normally sticks to the silicone adhesion layer.

Screen Protector Care

Screen protector care and replacement
  • Using high-quality microfiber screen cleaning cloths and solution is recommended to keep your protector looking like new.
  • For your convenience, we offer several screen cleaning kits for your screen protector.
  • While the longevity of a screen protector varies based on usage, abuse and environmental factors, the typical replacement time of screen protectors (with normal usage and care) is approximately 24 months.
What's the best method to clean the screen protector once it is applied?

Our screen protectors can withstand harsh cleaning chemicals, helping to protect your expensive devices. However, frequent use of strong cleaners may reduce the lifespan of the protector.

To extend the life of your screen protector:

  • Use a clean microfiber cloth and a high-quality cleaning solution safe for LCD/LED screens.
  • DO NOT USE any household products that contain ammonia, as this can damage the anti-glare coating of your screen and the protector.

General Notes About our Screen Protectors

Are your protectors made of tempered glass?

They are not. They are made of high-quality PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) plastic which is a high-performance material.

We feel that PET protectors are better than tempered glass protectors because they will not crack or break, causing shards of glass. Also, we are able to cut many different shape and sizes on demand using PET.

They are pliable and become tough once applied to the screen. Their pliability allows them to work well on curved monitors. The silicone adhesive allows for easy removal and leaves no residue on the screen.

To learn more about the differences between the materials that Photodon uses and tempered glass, read our blog here.

Is it possible to layer material types?

Yes, it is possible. If you are a B2B customer, contact us for a quote and lead time.

Will an anti-glare screen protector applied to a factory-installed matte or anti-glare screen make the screen blurry?

Maybe. Screen image quality varies per material type. Please view our Screen Protector Comparison Sheet for image quality ratings.

Can an anti-glare material "fix" a damaged screen? Examples: scratches, loss of protective coating.

Possibly, it depends on the screen itself and the damage. We suggest trying the MXT anti-glare screen protector or try our sample pack to test them out.

Is your screen protector UV rated? Can it be used outdoors?

Yes, and yes. LCD and LED panels do not emit UV rays. All of our screen protectors reduce UV exposure from the sun and other potential sources to the screen by about 90%. However, our materials are not meant to be used outside for extended periods of time.

Are the protectors cut exactly to the screen size?

The screen protectors are cut to allow a .5 mm to 1 mm gap to the edge of the frame for ease of installation and removal. Cutting too large can result in the protector overlapping the frame. If the device is frameless, the screen protector could extend beyond the screen edge, resulting in screen protector that does not adhere well.

Please note: If ordering a custom cut and you would like to have your screen protector fit exactly to the edge of your device, you may specify "Exact" when checking out or when filling out the Screen Information Sheet.

Will your screen protectors interfere with the IR sensors on my screen?

Most screen protectors will interfere with your device's IR sensors. We recommend ordering a sample pack to test them out.

Adhesion of Screen Protectors

All our screen protectors, except for the non-adhesive (P2L) privacy filter, adhere with a fully backed silicone adhesion which will not damage your device’s surface or leave any residue when removed.

Glare Reduction and Screen Resolutions

Choose a higher anti-glare material such as MXT or HSG for more screen surface glare reduction. For the best clarity, choose a clear or low anti-glare material such as MXO, HSC, 9HO or MXH. Typically, the greater the amount of anti-glare, the more speckling once applied to the screen. This is most noticeable on white screen backgrounds and if you read fine text or do color-critical work. For that reason, you may find that not all material types are listed for all devices.

Visual noise occurs when you apply an anti-glare screen protector over a glass-covered screen. A material type may not be listed for this reason; however, this effect varies among device, screen protector type, and lighting conditions. Ordering a sample pack allows you to test multiple materials to find the one that YOU prefer! If you decide to purchase an unlisted material type, select any material type for your device and in the "Special Notes" section, type in your material choice, please read our Return Policy before ordering.
